CASELLES D’AVALL
Porqueres
This is the first of three newly-built houses which we are building for local developers. The volumetry is designed to maximise natural cross-ventilation both in plan view and cross section.
The construction criteria followed were designed according to passive cooling concepts.
The flat roofs are Catalonian style, which ensures that the structure and the insulation contain an air chamber which avoids overheating as a result of radiation from the sun. All openings exposed to the sun have some sort of solar protection as well as porches which strengthen this idea.
The walls, as usual with our studio, are cavity walls which ensure a passive comfort, as in winter they have a greater thermal inertia and in summer the exterior wall impedes overheating of the enclosure.
Since it has already been lived in, the benefits of all these actions have been confirmed.
