Sant Mori. ALT EMPORDÀ
Sant Mori’s House, is alocated in the heart of the historic center, and it’s an outstanding example of how medieval architecture can coexist in harmony with contemporary desig and current comfort standards. With origins that probably date back to the 14th-15th centuries, this house has evolved over the centuries, preserving its historical essence and becoming a unique restoration and interior design project.
A collaboration based on trust and shared vision
The key to the success of this project has been the complicity with the client. He brought a deep knowledge of the house and a refined taste for interior design, while we brought the experience to give architectural form to his concerns.
A clear agreement was established from the beginning: to respect the authenticity of the house us much us possible, avoiding overloading the spaces with unnecessary interventions. Interior walls and vaults have been painted with lime, maintaining the historical character, but avoiding excess stone in the interior, and the exterior has not been altered at all, preserving facades and walls of both the street and the courtyard.
Natural light: design with surgical precision
One of the biggest challenges was to introduce natural light into the house without compromising its medieval essence. Each opening has been strategically designed:
- Openints between walls that allow light to pass from one room to another without being perceived from the outside.
- Larger windows facing the patio, with glass that controls thermal load and glare.
In addition, passive air conditioning solutions have been implemented: cross ventilation, solar protection and strategic orientation of the windows, avoiding the sun from the west and east, and taking advantage of the southern light in a controlled manner. Thanks to the original walls of more than 50 cm thick, it was not necessary to increase the thermal insulation, demonstrating the efficiency of traditional construction.
Traditional materials and craftsmanship: the soul of the project
His deep knowledge of the house allowed him to decide how he wanted to distribute the spaces and what aesthetic style he pursued, but he trusted us to materialize his vision with precision, using high-quality pre-industrial techniques and materials.
The final result harmoniously combines medieval architecture and contemporary design: furniture by Italian designers from the 1970s, flooring and finishes chosen with exquisite care, and a generous and surprising garden with a swimming pool, which reinforce the uniqueness of the house without altering its historical character.
Tradition and modernity in perfect harmony
Sant Mori’s House demonstrates that it is possible to respect medieval architecture while incorporating contemporary solutions for comfort, passive sustainability and quality interior design. It is a project where history, functionality and aesthetics coexist in balance.
