A FARMHOUSE WITH VIEWS TO THE GAVARRES

MORE FRUITFUL. Sant Sadurní de l’Heura.

Nestled in the quiet village of Sant Sadurní de l’Heura, Mas Fruitós represents the perfect fusion between nature, comfort and sustainability. This project is another example of Bangolo Arquitectura’s commitment to the respectful and functional rehabilitation of traditional farmhouses, adapting them to the needs of the present without losing their historical essence.

One client, one vision
The promoter of Mas Fruitós is a person deeply connected to nature and with a life marked by the Pyrenean mountains. His desire to find a home where he could enjoy outdoor activities led him to this farmhouse. In addition to the impressive views of Les Gavarres, I was looking for a renovation that respected the authenticity of the building, while guaranteeing comfort and sustainability.
This philosophy fit perfectly with our environmental sensitivity and our commitment to the use of pre-industrial materials and a timeless architectural language.

The key principles of rehabilitation
In the case of Mas Fruitós, our intervention focused on three key elements:

  • Natural light:
Traditional farmhouses are usually dark, with few openings to the outside. For this reason, we designed a staircase that not only connects the levels, but also acts as a channel for the entry of natural light, illuminating the interior spaces efficiently.
  • The fireplace:
We incorporated a fireplace that provides thermal comfort and a space to create meaningful moments. This element not only warms the atmosphere, but also encourages coexistence and the creation of shared memories.
  • The views:
One of the strong points of Mas Fruitós is its privileged views of the Gavarres. We adjusted the layout of the interior spaces and openings to maximize the visual connection with the landscape, creating an experience that invites contemplation and tranquility.

Recovering the past
A particularly moving aspect of this project was the recovery of the farmhouse’s original architectural features, which had been hidden after a previous renovation. Thanks to photographs from 1974 provided by the owner, we were able to identify and restore elements that add authenticity and connect the building with its history.

Simple materials, excellent results
The character of this renovation was achieved with a minimalist approach to materials. We opted for ceramics, wood and lime coatings, looking for a simple but durable aesthetic. These materials, optimized to the maximum, reflect our philosophy of sustainability and respect for the environment.

Timeless elegance
The result is an elegant farmhouse, with generous interior and exterior spaces, that invites socializing without losing its rural essence. Every corner of Mas Fruitós breathes balance between the traditional and the contemporary, offering an environmental and architectural quality that redefines the idea of home.

The Bangolo philosophy
At Bangolo we understand farmhouses as witnesses to the past that deserve to be preserved for future generations. We rehabilitate everything necessary to guarantee comfort and energy efficiency, keeping the external appearance and historical legacy of each building intact. This balance between modernity, functionality and respect for the past is what distinguishes us as a studio.

With projects like Mas Fruitós, we are confident of providing sustainable spaces that enrich the lives of those who inhabit them.
